About

In the late 1990s the existing range in the Kern River Valley was operated by the local Lions Club. Several years later the Kern River Valley Gun Association was organized and received a ten year special use permit to operate the shooting range on the Kern River Ranger District, Sequoia National Forest. The range is operated on a non-discriminatory basis exclusively for social purposes for the encouragement of organized rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting among the residents and visitors of the Kern River Valley, with a view towards a better knowledge on the part of such citizens of the safe handling and proper care of firearms, as well as improved marksmanship. The existence of the range limits the damage done by persons shooting in unsupervised forest areas, and the litter left behind. The range is open to all youth groups providing them with a safe environment to practice and improve on newly learned skills. The range also has an archery range, KRVGA members participate in regularly scheduled events, including cowboy single action meets. The shooting areas are covered and there is ample parking space for trailers and motor homes. Our NRA Certified Range Safety Officers on site insure all range rules are obeyed to provide a safe shooting environment.
