Meeting Minutes
Thursday, August 22, 2019
Meeting called to order at 6:30 PM at the Kern River Valley Gun Range classroom and began with the flag salute.

Past Meeting Minutes: Kee Johnson read the meeting minutes for July 25, 2019. Approved.
President’s Report: Jeff Evans
- FREE Lead Free Ammo Will be at the range on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.
- Ventana Wildlife Society will provide One (1) free box (20 rounds) of centerfire ammunition per person per calendar year. Website: https://www.ventanaws.org/ammunition.html

- Ventana Wildlife Society will conduct a Standard Ammunition Eligibility Check (and cover the $1 cost) using your scanned driver’s license.
- All transfers must be signed for by the recipient. At the time of pick-up.

- Mike Stake will be at the range on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM for ammo pick up. You MUST be Pre-Approved to pick-up your lead free ammo!!!! Use the process above.
- 2019 NRA Final Report is due November 1st for items we received from grant.
- NRA Grant Writing Time Applications must be submitted by Oct. 23, 2019.
- Electrical run to trap range, cowboy range, training room and camping area. Get price from Ken Christie.
- Swamp Cooler for training/meeting room, water tank and pump.
- Hesco barriers between rifle and pistol range and between pistol and cowboy range (~$30K).
- MT2 lead abatement and berm rehabilitation (~$20K).
- 5 Stand shotgun course (~$20K).
- Youth/Women’s 20 gauge shotguns/.22 rifles (~$5K)
- Archery targets and equipment. Archery storage container (20 foot).

- On Monday, August 12, the Senate Appropriations Committee sent AB 1254 (Prohibit bobcat hunting/trapping) to the suspense file and rescheduled AB 1669 (Increase Fees for firearm purchases) to be heard next Monday, August 19. On Wednesday, August 14, the Assembly Appropriations Committee sent SB 172 (Expands storage laws) to the suspense file. Both the Senate and Assembly Appropriations Committees will be taking up their respective suspense files the week of August 26, prior to the August 30 deadline.
Treasurer’s Report: Bob Johnson gave the treasurer’s report. Club has $29,013.02
Income: $581.25 Expenses: $576.84 Membership at 567 + 60 life members
Chief Range Safety Officer Report: Mark Miller advised the pistol training course will be
September 27, 2019 at 10 AM. RSO training class for four people will be September 14, 2019 at 8 AM.
Mark will not be getting CPR trained at this time. There is an on-line course through the National CPR Foundation that is recognized by the American Red Cross. Course is $19.00 with the club’s discount code. Change in RSO schedule: Sept. 1, 2019: Tim Scrogham and Bob Bradley. Tim will handle the trap range. Sept. 8, 2019: Dennis Veale and John Smith. Dennis will handle the trap range. We are in need of a trap range refresher course.

- August 3rd *Aspirin Shoot* Rim fire rifle at 50 yards: 1st Place-Terry Thompson (7 hits); 2nd Place-Dennis Veale (4 hits); 3rd Place Tracy Brown (3 hits). Center fire at 100 yards: 1st Place-Frank Llanes (7 hits); 2nd Place- Terry Thompson (6 hits); 3rd Place tie: Juan/Abraham Llanes (3 hits).
- August 31st – 3 Gun Competition. Each stage MAY consist of 30+ pistol rounds on steel or paper targets 7 – 15 yards. 10 rifle rounds on steel or paper targets 50 – 150 yards. 8+ shotgun rounds birdshot and/or slugs. This was previously set for September 28.
- September 7th Centerfire rifle/centerfire pistol. Steel rifle targets at 100/200 yards, 10 rounds, steel pistol targets at 7-25 yards. 60 rounds minimum. Timed event.
- October 5th Centerfire rifle from bench. Any sights. Paper targets 200-300-400-500 yards. 5 shots on each target.
- November 2nd *Poker Shoot* Rimfire rifle / pistol, any sights. Playing cards at 25 yards, 7 rounds minimum. (Non-points event)

- Installed Running target system. Placed telephone pole on top of berm to protect rail system and carriages.
- Received another 16” diameter gong from X Metal targets – Will place at 300 yards
- Will install target frame holders at 300, 400 and 500 yards to make 5 target stands at each location.
- Checked with Thomas Refuse regarding delivering water if we get a tank for swamp cooler. $75.00 for 4,000 gallons.

ARTICLE II OBJECT
The object of this organization shall be the encouragement of organized
rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting among citizens of the United States, with
a view toward a better knowledge on the part of such citizens, of the safe
handling and proper care of firearms, as well as improved marksmanship.
It shall be our further object to forward the development of those
characteristics of honesty, good fellowship, self-discipline, camaraderie
and the foundation of true patriotism.

The object of this organization shall be the encouragement of organized
rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting among members, their guests and the public
with a view toward a better knowledge of the safe handling and proper care of
firearms, as well as improved marksmanship. It shall be our further object to
forward the development of those characteristics of honesty, good fellowship,
self-discipline, camaraderie and the foundation of true patriotism.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP
Section 1 – Resident Members
Resident Members shall be defined as any citizen of the United States, of
voting age, a permanent resident of the Kern River Valley and having paid
the set initiation fee and dues or a Life member.
