Meeting Minutes

Thursday, May 27, 2021

 

Meeting called to order at 6:00 PM at the Kern River Valley Gun Club classroom and began with the flag salute.

 

Introductions:

  • Total Members Present – 15
  • First Time Attendees – David Seibt

 

Past Meeting Minutes:  Kee Johnson read the minutes for April 22, 2021.  One correction requested by President Jeff Evans – Women’s & Youth’s Introduction to Trap Shooting changed from 8 – 10 shooters to 20 possible shooters.  Minutes approved.

 

President’s Report: Jeff Evans

  • Public opening – Still on hold.
  • 2021 NRA Grants: All grants have been approved at the first level and now move forward to be reviewed by the NRA Foundation Board of Trustees for final approval with the exception of the following which has been approved and scheduled to arrive:
    • MEC 500E ATA Trap Machine
    • Atlas Trio Field Simulator
    • Plate Rack (2)
    • Lead Sled (2)
    • Spotting Scope (2) + money for range finder

 

Treasurer’s Report: Bob Johnson gave the treasurer’s report.  Club has $55,904.54.

Income:  $5,953.90 which includes a $5,000 donation from the now defunct Friends of the Fish Hatchery.  Expenses:  $1,604.55

Total Membership:  489 + 99 life members

 

Range Executive Officer Report: Jeff Evans

  • Be prepared for re-opening.

 

Competition Director: Dennis Veale

APRIL 24: Long distance rifle shoot.  Extremely windy.

1st Place – Willie Garcia

2nd Place – Frank Llanes

3rd   Place – Kevin Hinkle

Tied for 4th Place was Juan and Eddie Llanes

 

MAY 22:  CENTERFIRE REVOLVER SHOOT – Results

  • 1st Place – Kevin Hinkle
  • 2nd Place – Jim Hunt
  • 3rd Place – Jeff Evans
  • Competitions Planned
    • JUNE 5: TACTICAL 2-GUN, RIMFIRE HANDGUNE AND RIMFIRE RIFLE
    • JUNE 26: CENTERFIRE HANDGUN SHOOT
    • JULY 24: TWO GUN RIFLE/HANDGUN SHOOT

 

Committee Reports:

  • Shotgun Group – Jeff Evans
    • Upcoming Events
      • Women’s/Youth Introduction to Trap Shooting – June 19 – Need RSOs
      • (12 – 17 yrs. Or parent approval for youths)
      • Mount Mesa Men’s Club Fundraiser Trap Shoot – Postponed
      • South Fork School & Community Foundation Fundraiser Trap Shoot
      • Toys for Tots Charity Trap Shoot
    • New concrete stations on the Trap Range. Remove existing lanes (retain arch), pour new lanes and fill in between the lanes with compacted decomposed granite to reduce tripping hazard. Estimate received for $4,000. Voted on and approved.  No opposition.  However, USFS approval is needed before anything can be done.

Range Maintenance Officer: Jeff Evans (Tim absent due to surgery)

  • Surveillance System – New system installed for Training Room/Trap/Cowboy/Archery range. Kern Valley Wireless coming next week to install router to it can be monitored remotely.  Evaluate this new system before purchasing a second system to replace existing system at rifle/pistol range.
  • Following items to be discussed under Old Business.
  • Training Room Flooring.
  • Heat Pump system to heat and cool Training Room.
  • 8’ X 7” Roll-up door on Cowboy container $2,500

 

  • Range Maintenance
    • Weekly:
      • Dump Trash
      • Replace cardboard on target frames
      • Pick up brass
    • 1st and 3rd Tuesdays – Paint steel targets
    • 2nd Tuesday of each month – Rake Trap Range
    • 4th Tuesday of each month – Berm Weed Abatement

 

 

Old Business:

  • Training Room Flooring – Brought samples from Budget Carpet in Wofford Heights. Vote taken to approve $4,500 maximum.    No opposition.
  • Heat Pump system to heat and cool Training Room. Want to have this installed by the end of June.  Campbell Air in Ridgecrest has been called 4 times.  Suggestion made to call Jerry’s Refrigeration.  Vote taken to approve $4,500 maximum to be spent.    No opposition.
  • 8’ X 7” Roll-up door on Cowboy container $2,500.   Postponing this job.

 

New Business:

  • Suggestion Box – No suggestions but a $24.00 donation was in the box.
  • Brass – A lot of brass has been sorted and is for sale. Prices are posted in the maintenance shed.  Price to members:  8 cents a piece for pistol rounds, 10 cents for .223, 15 cents for small rifle and 20 cents for magnum rounds.  Sold $67.00 worth of brass last week.  Lead is free is anyone wants it.
