Meeting Minutes

Thursday, June 25, 2020

 

Meeting called to order at 6:30 PM at the Kern River Valley gun range classroom and began with the flag salute.

 

Introductions:

  • New Members and
  • First Time Attendees- Mark Erpenbach, Debra Matthews and Sabrina Eye
  • 15 members present

 

 

Past Meeting Minutes: Kee Johnson read the meeting minutes from February 22, 2020.  Approved

Many of the events planned for and mentioned in the minutes did not occur due to Covid-19.

 

President’s Report: Jeff Evans

  • Public opening – Unknown when the range will be open to the public due to Covid-19 and USFS restrictions.  Still open to members.
  • NRA Grants:
    • Improve electrical service to the range (SCE). Not Awarded. Club footed the bill.
    • Electrical run to trap range, cowboy range, training room and camping area. Not Awarded.
    • HESCO barriers between rifle and pistol range and between pistol and cowboy range. Not Awarded.
    • MT2 lead abatement and berm rehabilitation. Not Awarded.
    • Youth/Women’s 20 gauge shotguns/.22 rifles, archery equipment and targets. Partially Awarded.
    • 5 Stand shotgun course. Not Awarded.
  • Gun Laws
  • Look at AB88 – something that is being slipped in with the budget. Not good.
  • Jeff mentioned, according to the CRPA, the CRPA is unable to prevent many gun laws from being passed.  Their only recourse is to  challenge them as unconstitutional through court proceedings.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Bob Johnson gave the treasurer’s report.  Club has $27,524.98 as of 6-22-20.

Income for the last four months:  $8,115.68 and expenses were $11,433.91 which includes insurance and electrical project.  Membership at 459 plus 99 life members.

 

Chief Range Safety Officer Report: Mark Miller reiterated that we would not be opening to the public until receiving OK from USFS.

 

Competition Director: Dennis Veale had a “center fire” shoot on May 23, 2020, with 10 shooters.  If your last name wasn’t Llanes, you did not place in the top four.  Frank – 1st, Herberto – 2nd, Juan – 3rd and Abraham – 4th

 

NEXT SHOOTS:

  • June 27th – Centerfire Pistol Accuracy Shoot
  • July 25th – Two Gun Competition; Rifle/Pistol

 

 

 

Committee Reports:

  • Shotgun Group – Joe Price – Not present.
    • Upcoming Events – None
      • Mount Mesa Men’s Club Trap Shoot – not rescheduled
    • Cowboy Action Group – Bob Johnson

  • Range Maintenance
    • Weekly:
      • Dump Trash
      • Replace cardboard on target frames
      • Pick up brass
    • 1st and 3rd Tuesdays – Paint steel targets
    • 2nd Tuesday of each month – Rake Trap Range
    • 4th Tuesday of each month – Berm Weed Abatement
  • Office and Maintenance Shed decluttered and mice free – Thank you to Tim Scrogham
  • Electricity to Training Room – Thank you Heinz Sackreuter, Bob Johnson, Rich McDonald and Jim Gordon
  • Hank Blackler thanked Bob Johnson for weed abatement with his tractor.

New Business:

Discussion regarding 1st Shot Program.

Discussion regarding adding fines to the bi-laws for range violations prior to withdrawing membership.

Discussion regarding making a video orientation. Joe Margiotta said he can do it but needs actors.

Discussion regarding reducing range membership fee for August and September with incentive orientation.
